Rights to access to financial resources for Associations
The Friends of Angola hereby appeal to the Angolan authorities that should respect the UN rapporteur on the rights of the freedom of peaceful assembly and Association, Maina Kiai.
The third chapter of this document ensures access to associations financial resources as a vital part of the right to freedom of Association.
It is inconceivable that, on the pretext of preventing terrorist financing, the Presidential Decree of 23 March 2015 forbid non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from receiving legitimate donations and verifiable sources.
It is bad faith to remove social integrity and accountability to those institutions that have contributed to the full exercise of citizenship and promote concrete improvements in the protection of human rights in our society.
It is in the interest of the Angolan Government to respect fully the principles and statutes of the organization which it belongs to – the United Nations!
